Hello. I hope you’ve had a great week! What are your March plans?

This past week I’ve gone to the beach with my puppy, finished the last week of my Java 1 and Leadership & Organizational Behavior classes, met with an awesome handyman to learn about his experiences running a business, watched a jiu-jitsu tournament, and finished a course on Developing Rock-Solid Habits by Brandon Hakim. I also went social dancing, drew a bit, and watched Super Showdown. The outcome of the main event at Super Showdown was not at all what I was expecting! Lastly, I’ve started a Lynda/LinkedIn Learning course on Building High-Performance Teams.

Some things I’ve learned this past week are:

·       Invest in life insurance early because you can borrow against it later

·       Querying data in a URL begins with the site path/URL (www.example.com/some-page), then contains a ‘?’ to indicate the start of any filter parameters, and is then followed by the parameters written as key=value pairs and separated by an ‘&’

·       Pain/failure + reflection = progress

·       There are 7 steps necessary to build a high performing team: set a direction, gather & deploy resources, assemble the team, allocate & prioritize work, execute the plan, motivate people, and develop the team

Another thing I’ve learned is the importance of showing your employees/team you care about them. How do you balance professionalism and showing your co-workers/constituents you genuinely care about them?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you have a great week and a great month!

Sincerely,

Mulan Lau
